The second side of the George And James album had featured the music of James Brown. This single is not on it but represents a further take on the Godfather of Soul's music. The Resident's triumph here is that despite the deconstruction of the original into an even sparser electro-plod with a helium fuelled vocal, they still manage to retain the orginal's poiniency. Funding from Warner Brothers enabled them to produce a promotional video which was in itself an absolute work of art.
Notes for Brits: in the UK, we didn't see many of the limited eyeball vinyl versions (as above). It appeared here in a suitably minimalist black cover, on the short lived Korova label, which belonged to Echo And The Bunnymen, guitarist Will Sergeant, being a long time fan of The Residents.
